A Dhaka court today issued an ad-interim injunction on the functions of the newly elected executive committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the pro-BNP student body, for next seven days.

Judge Nusrat Sahara Bithi of the Fourth Assistant Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order after Md Aman Ullah Aman, a former assistant religious affairs secretary of JCD, filed an application seeking a temporary injunction on functions of the newly-elected executive committee of JCD.

The court also asked the newly formed JCD committee to explain in seven days as to why a permanent injunction should not be imposed upon their functions.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and nine others yesterday appeared before the court and sought time for submitting written objections to the notice issued by this court earlier. Following this, the court granted them time.

The JCD’s new executive committee was elected at its council on September 19. At the council, Fazlur Rahman Khokon has been elected president while Iqbal Hossain Shyamol elected general secretary of JCD.

BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas declared the new committee on behalf of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who is now in London.

Earlier on September 12, a Dhaka court issued an ad-interim injunction on holding JCD’s council as Aman filed a case, seeking a permanent injunction on it.

Aman filed a case also saying that he had earlier purchased a nomination form for contesting the post of JCD president but the commission cancelled his nomination paper without any reasonable ground.

Advocate Masud Talukder, a pro-BNP lawyer, told The Daily Star that the court should have issued a notice to the new JCD committee before issuing the injunction order.
