2 killed in Dhaka, Khulna ‘gunfights’
Two people including a suspected drug peddler were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in Dhaka and Khulna early today.
In Dhaka, Md Touhid, 35, hailed from Chattogram, was hit by a bullet during a “gunfight” with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Nagdarpara area of Khilgaon, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khilgaon Police Station.
Touhid was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 3:30am, he said.
Details of the “gunfight” will be revealed later, the OC said.
In Khulna, Bikash Kumar Dey, an alleged drug peddler, was killed in a “shootout” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Dumuria upazila, Major Ashraf of Rab-6 told our local correspondent.
There were 20 cases filed against Bikash in drug and extortion related cases, the Rab official said.
Tipped off that drug peddlers gathered at Dhanibunia, a team of Rab conducted a drive there around 1:00am, he said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the miscreants opened fire, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a “gun battle”, he said.
At one stage, the criminals managed to flee the scene, leaving behind Bikash who suffered bullet wounds during the “gunfight“, the Rab official said.
He was taken to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Three Rab members were also injured during the incident, he added.
The Rab team recovered two pistols, six bullets, 55 bottles of phensidyl and 200 Yaba tablets from the spot, the Rab official said.
