20 maunds venison seized in Barguna; one held

Coast Guard members arrested a man along with 20 maunds of venison from Baleshwar river in Patharghata upazila in Barguna early today.

The arrestee, identified as Abdus Sobhan, 55, hails from Chardoani village under the upazila, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Biswajit Barua, station commander of Patharghata Coast Guard.

Informed, a team of coast gourd stopped a wooden trawler at the estuary of the river around 2:00am, Biswajit Barua said.

After searching the trawler, the team seized 20 maunds of venison and a head of a deer and also arrested Sobhan on charge of poaching deer, the official added.

“We handed over the venison and the arrestee to Patharghata police,” the station commander said.
