Right now, we’re going through an 80’s revival phase — or at least we are at the end of that phase. However, modern themes are getting a little old. It’s the same thing just updated and recycled in a lot of cases. The sheer amount of popular media that features oppressive dystopias taken down by The Chosen One™ is kind of getting old at this point. If you look at video games, tower climbing open world games are the vogue right now. In fact, even here in Bangladesh, I’ve sat in many creative brainstorming meetings where fresh ideas were shot down simply because they would be unfamiliar to the audience. While many would point towards social media being the solution to this problem as it lets anyone showcase their work, we are yet to see how to turn “likes” into money when it comes to content as exemplified by the need of Patreon accounts by many YouTubers.
