Modi removes plastic, garbage at Beach

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been striving for a clean India campaign, today spent half an hour removing strewn plastic and garbage during an early morning stroll along the beach of the Bay of Bengal at Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Clad in all-black shirt and trousers, Modi was seen in a video posted on his official Twitter page handle collecting plastic bottles, tiny packets and other garbage items thrown on the sea shore, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

He put the plastics and the garbage into a large transparent packet and handed those over to another man named Jeyraj who is a part of the hotel staff in Mamallapuram where he has been having a two-day informal summit with visiting Chinese President Xi Jingping since yesterday.

Modi later wrote on Twitter "Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning.

It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my 'collection' to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff. Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy! Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy."

Modi launched clean India drive in 2014 and gave a clarion call to end the menace of plastics during his address to the nation on the occasion of Independence Day in August this year.
