‘Extortionist’ killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’
An alleged extortionist was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Agrabad area of Chattogram city tonight.
Deceased Khurshid Alam,45, son of Shafiq Ahmed, a resident of Mogoltuli area of the port city, was accused at least eight cases filed with different police stations, said Rab.
Locals introduced Alam as a Jubo League man but The Daily star could not verify the information independently.
On information that a group of terrorists and extortionists gathered at near World Trade Centre (WTC) of Agrabad around 9:30pm, a team of Rab went to the area to conduct a drive, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz of Rab-7.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the terrorists opened fire on them that prompted the Rab men to take the retaliatory action.
After the gunfight, Rab found a bullet hit body from the spot and identified him as Khurshed Alam.
A foreign made pistol, a revolver and a one shooter gun were also recovered from the spot.
