Global Climate Hackathon in Dhaka on October 25

On Global Climathon Day, 25th October 2019, over 120 cities worldwide will organise a solutions-hackathon aimed to tackle local climate challenges. The hackathon is part of Climathon, a global year-round programme initiated by EIT Climate-KIC, to mobilise cities and citizens to take climate action, together.

In Dhaka, the event will take place from 25th October, 10:00 AM till 26th October, 12:00 PM and will focus on solving issues regarding food safety, waste management and sustainable energy consumption, according to a press release issued in this regard. This local climate action event is organised by Gen Lab at The Daily Star Centre.

Challenges awaiting for our participants to find innovative solutions to in Climathon 2019 includes:

1.  Food Safety : How can contamination free fresh food be available to citizens of Dhaka?

2.  Sustainable Energy Consumption : How can we bring positive change in citizen behavior to create energy efficient Dhaka city?

3.  Waste Management : How can we change our daily behaviour for making clean Dhaka city with efficient waste management?

Climathon Dhaka identifies local climate challenges in close collaboration with related stake holders. During the solutions-hackathon, Climathon brings together entrepreneurs, innovators, programmers, designers and professionals to develop solutions.

After 24 intense hours of collaboration, excitement and solution-finding, a jury panel will select the most promising and impactful ideas. After the hackathon the winning idea will be eligible for funding and will be prepared for incubation.55

This year is also the inaugural of  Climathon Global Awards, a celebration of transformative solutions developed during Climathons between 2015-2019. The awards serve as a platform to celebrate the community built so far. It is also a far-reaching global call for city leaders and citizens to collaborate with scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs and other innovators to develop innovative local solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.

In particular, there will be a strong focus on 'transformative solutions' through its Citizen Award and 'systemic innovation' through its City Award. Climathon Global Awards winners receive financial and non-financial support to take their ideas to the next level.
