Commuters in Chattogram city have been suffering immensely as owners and workers of bus, minibus and local human hauler refrained from plying vehicles on the roads since this morning.

In this situation, transport crisis put students, office goers and other commuters in trouble. They were seen taking rides on pick up vans to reach their destinations.

Although no organisation has officially announced any transport strike, the public transport workers went on their self-sponsored work abstention after a mobile court yesterday sentenced a bus owner to 15 days and its driver to 30 days imprisonment as they failed to show fitness certificate of their vehicle.

Manjurul Alam Manju, president of Chattogram District Road Transport Owners’ Group, said he had no idea about the work abstention.

However, he assumed some transport owners and workers might have organised the strike without any announcement following the BRTA drive.

Mahbubul Haque Mia, general secretary of Chattogram City BUS Minibus Human Hauler Owners’ Association said it is illogical if they went on strike due to the drive.
