It has been more than two weeks that Bangladesh is without Facebook, Whatsapp and Viber. Some of the most visited and used social media platforms were apparently closed down 'temporarily' for national security. Going off the net a couple of days before the hanging of war criminals Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Mohammad Mojaheed, the common platforms for communication between entrepreneurs, creative agencies, digital media companies and businesses were switched off. While the citizens thanked the government and the law enforcement officials for keeping streets clear of the much expected post-hanging riots, Tarana Halim the State Minister at the Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry division however claimed, according to a report, that the credit is to be given to the social-media-free zone created in Bangladesh.
