A Bangladeshi fisherman was shot dead and another injured allegedly by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) when they went to fishing in the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar this morning, locals claimed.

The deceased was identified as Noor Mohammad, 38, while the injured as Abul Kalam, 32, of East Moheshkhalia Para in Teknaf, report our correspondent from Cox’s Bazar

Lieutenant Colonel Md Foisal Hasan, commanding officer (CO) of BGB-2 Battalion said a team of BGB while patrolling the area, found the body of Noor Mohammad and bullet-hit Abul Kalam near sluice gate No. 5.

Injured Abul Kalam was first rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital. He confirmed their identities and described the incident, the BGB sources said.

The body of Noor Mohammad, who left behind a wife, four daughters and a son, was sent to the hospital for autopsy.

The dead and injured fishermen along with some others went to the Naf River with nets when the incident took place, said local union parishad member Jahed Hossain.

But details of the incident will be informed later after investigation, the BGB official told the reporters.
