Writ seeks writer for visually impaired man during tests of assistant judge
A visually impaired candidate has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive on Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) to allow him to keep a writer during all tests for the post of assistant judge.
Sudip Das, who completed LLB and LLM from Chittagong University, submitted the petition to the HC today.
In the petition, he said he has become a candidate for the post of assistant judge in the forthcoming 13th BJSC examinations as he has been cherishing in his heart to serve the nation as a judge.
He said he has already applied to the BJSC on November 5 to allow him to keep a writer along with him at the time of all examinations for the post of assistant judge, as the preliminary test of 13th BJSC will be held on November 8.
Sudip, a man from Pahartali area in Chattogram, said the BJSC has not yet responded to his application, and also apprehended that the BJSC may reject his prayer.
In the petition, he also said that the BJSC has earlier verbally refused his applications for twice to allow him to keep a writer during BJSC examinations.
Sudip also challenged the BJSC’s refusals.
Citing the petition, Sudip’s lawyer Advocate Cumar Debul Dey told The Daily Star that according to Article 29 (1) of the constitution “there shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in respect of employment or office in the service of the Republic”.
According to Section 16 (jha) of Protibondhi Byaktir Adhikar O Surokkha Ain, 2013, the state shall ensure equal treatment of a disable person in entering into the government job, but his client has not been equally treated by the BJSC, he said.
Advocate Cumar Debul said the HC may hear on the writ petition tomorrow.
