Forest dept bans tourists in Sundarbans, starts work to assess damage
Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) barred tourists from visiting the largest mangrove in the world temporarily to assess the damage to the forest.
Employees of 63 camps of the Bangladesh Forest Department have started work in Sundarbans to assess the trail of destruction left behind by Cyclone Bulbul, our Khulna correspondent reports quoting Conservator of Forest (Khulna division) Moyeen Uddin Khan.
Some camps, wooden pontoons, jetties and walkways were damaged in the cyclone, he said adding that no news of any wildlife deaths was received so far.
At least seven people were killed in different coastal districts as cyclone ‘Bulbul’ lashed Khulna and adjoining southwestern part of the country on Sunday before weakening into a deep depression.
