Chennai airport to resume flight operations
Commercial flight operations will resume today at the Chennai airport that was shut on Tuesday evening due to excessive water-logging, reports NDTV.
As the flood crisis in the Tamil Nadu capital eased after days of torrential rain, train services also resumed this morning after being halted for four days.
Yesterday, the airport was opened for flights carrying relief supplies for the rain-hit state. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had declared the runway fit for operating technical ferry and relief flights after inspection.
Air India's chartered flight, AI-549, is scheduled to take off from the airport this morning, reports news agency Press Trust of India. The airlines' flight AI 429 is scheduled for arrival at 1:40 pm. The same flight will depart for New Delhi at 2:45 pm.
A total 34 aircraft of various airlines were stranded at the airport when the AAI decided to shut the airport till December 6 after incessant rain inundated the runway.
According to NDTV Chennai airport averagely handles 320 landings and take-offs in a day, including international flights.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Andaman express left the Chennai Central station at 5:15 am this morning.
