Media urged to mark countdown of celebrating Bangabandhu’s birth centenary

Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, today urged media to mark the countdown of celebrating Bangabandhu’s birth centenary in a fair and festive manner.

He made the call at a view exchange meeting with senior journalists on celebrating Bangabandhu’s birth centenary at the International Mother Language Institute.

In the meeting, it was decided that the print, electronic and online media will display prescribed logo of Mujib Borsho and countdown of the celebration in their respective media from January 10, 2020, Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day, which will continue till March 17—the day of the final countdown.

Kamal Abdul Naser said logo of Mujib Borsho and countdown and theme song will be finalised by December.   

Dr Rafiqul Islam, president of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, advised all concerned not to spend their all energy and strength centring the countdown of the celebration as the programme will continue for one year since March 17, 2020. 

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) together with Bangladesh would celebrate the “Mujib Borsho.”

Bangladesh will celebrate the “Mujib Borsho” through various programmes marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in Tungipara of Gopalganj on March 17, 1920.

A year after his 100th birth anniversary, Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence on March 26, 2021.

The inaugural function would begin at 4:00 pm on March 17, 2020, at the National Parade Square at city’s Tejgaon.

International personalities and world leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former UNESCO Secretary-General Irina Bukova and former Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa are likely to take part at the inaugural event.

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress Party of India President Sonia Gandhi, BJP leader and former Indian Prime Minister LK Advani, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad, among others will be invited to attend the programme, sources said.  There is also a plan to bring a world-renowned artist at the event

UNESCO is going to launch an award on Bangabandhu from next year. The award will be given to encourage young people to develop international relations through research and creativity. Bangladesh will pay UNESCO for the award every year since 2020, sources said.
