One killed in Keraniganj shop fire
A trader met an end of his life in a fire that broke out at his cotton shop in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka this afternoon.
Deceased Mohiuddin Khan, 52, was a resident of South Kerniganj, Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police camp told The Daily Star.
The fire originated from a blast of an electric transformer near the shop and started engulfing three other shops within a moment around 12:30pm, Bachchu Miah said quoting eyewitness.
Locals rescued Mohiuddin from the shop and took him to the DMCH where doctors declared him dead around 3:00pm, added the police official.
On information, five fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with two hours of their efforts, Russell Shikder, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, said.
