Renowned Bangladeshi artist Proshanta Karmakar Buddha’s solo exhibition, titled Open Doors, is underway at the Grange, Dundas Street West Mississaugain, Canada. The show opened on December 10, and will continue till December 20.

This is the 33rd solo painting exhibition by the artist, displaying several acrylic paintings on canvas and 15 silkscreen prints and mixed media works. The exhibition is an initiative of Cross Currents—Indo Canadian International Arts, and the show is being organised with the help of Heritage Mississauga, Canada. Meena Chopra is the curator of the show.

Though peace is a recurring theme of Buddha’s modern and unique creations, this time, he has displayed several artworks themed on our glorious Liberation War. The artist longs for a world free of chaos, hopelessness and brutality. Several paintings on these themes are also being showcased in the gallery.

Buddha anticipates a peaceful utopia, where human empathy and cooperation transcend national boundaries. He has also participated in over 100 national and international group exhibitions as a full-time artist. He has received several national and international awards, including the 1992 Honorable Mention Award at a competition hosted by Alliance Française de Dhaka, the 1991 Okamoto Prize by the Asian Cultural Center for UNESCO in Tokyo, Japan, and the 1990 Best Award on printmaking at the 9th National Young Artist’s Exhibition held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
