Elderly woman killed after bus hit her son’s motorbike
A bus dragged an elderly woman for about 20 feet and crushed her under its wheels in Farmgate area of Dhaka this afternoon.
The deceased, Shakhina Begum, 60, was returning from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University sitting on the back seat of her son's motorbike after taking treatment, Hasanat Khandaker, inspector operation of Tejgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Shakhina fell off the motorbike after a bus of “Airport-Bangabandhu Avenue Paribahan” hit them from behind when they reach just under the Farmgate footbridge, Hasanat said.
Then, the driver dragged the woman for over 20 feet, leaving her dead on the spot, the police official said quoting the victim’s son Shamim Khan.
Local people recovered the body of the victim from under wheels of the bus and later it was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The victim’s son Shamim, who is deputy assistant agriculture officer of Directorate of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Tejgaon, also sustained injuries in the accident.
On information, police rushed to the spot and detained its driver Shah Alam and seized the bus but his assistant managed to flee the spot.
A case is underway to be lodged with Tejgaon Police Station in this connection, the police inspector said.
