Now that’s Dapper
"Fit is king. If I am not happy with the fit of the suit, it is not walking out of Dapper," says Shezzane Mozumder, director, Dapper Bespoke.
Sitting across me, in his finely fitted Egyptian blue shirt and charcoal trousers, paired with suede shoes, Shezzane Mozumder embodies the true principals of Dapper — knowledge, detail, and quality. His know-how of the nuances of every article of clothing is refreshing, allowing clients to settle down and take the backseat, knowing that their outfit is in good hands.
Dapper Bespoke was founded in 2014 by leading Bangladeshi men's fashion aficionado, Shahzaman Mozumder. He did not belong to the fashion industry, but held impeccable knowledge about all the nitty-gritties of constructing a suit and styling it.
With a trusted tailor with over 25 years of experience, he strode forward to capture the local fashion scene, giving it an unprecedented dimension. His blog, King of Dhaka, brought in a lot of clients, giving him the much-cherished experience of suiting up.
Bespoke tailoring is the art of stitching clothes right from scratch. The term originated in the 1600s, when people would go to a tailor shop and ask for the fabric that had "been spoken for." In bespoke tailoring, everything is crafted from scratch to match your liking and body type. It is made for you and you only. It takes months to train artisans to hone their skills until they meet perfection.
Dapper's atelier is carefully designed with a modern twist, painting sections of the wall with a punch of yellow (dominating mostly), blue, and orange. The contrast of colours and concept is a treat to the eyes.
There is a separate section where you pick your fabric and lining from, before walking in for the measurements to be taken. Sitting in one of the sections of their atelier, which they have transformed into a homely lounge, you can watch their skilled staff working incessantly, drawing patterns, stitching the fabrics together, and effortlessly bringing the suit into shape. Everything is transparent, allowing you to connect with Dapper Bespoke further.
Dapper define themselves as the finest tailor-made clothing store in the country, and why not? They initially try to understand you, figuring out your personality, and understanding if you lean towards a conservative style of fashion, or if you have a knack for flair; discussing the occasion that the outfit will be worn on, the time of the year, the time of the day, bringing into consideration every plausible detail.
Elaborate measurements are taken, where your height, body type, facial structure, posture and movements are considered so that the clothing does not restrict your movement, but rather, moves along with you. Typically, it takes three fittings to get your suit ready, taking close to 21 days to complete. The first trial is taken in after two weeks, while the second and third trial is placed based on how well the first one fairs.
There are two categories of suits, the half-canvas and full-canvas suits. Their two-piece half-canvas suit is Tk 15,000, while the three-piece is Tk 20,000. In addition, their double-breasted half-canvas is Tk 18,000.
On the other hand, their two-piece full-canvas suit is Tk 30,000 and their three-piece is Tk 40,000. Lastly, their entire Tuxedoes package accumulates to Tk 69,000.
With the growing crispness in the air, and the settling cold nights, winter is drawing in, bringing along with it, the clanging of wedding bells. Shezzane lays down some crucial advice for the groom and guests to make sure they are well prepared and dressed for the most happening time of the year.
It is best advised for grooms to not match completely with the bride, but to complement their partner's outfit with their tie or pocket square. Try dropping a hint of the colour in the pattern; the idea is not to blend in, but to create a pleasant contrast.
As most weddings parties now take place in evenings, the groom should opt for the more appropriate option of a darker outfit. On the other hand, lighter shades go well with day weddings.
"I mostly want to know what the lighting is going to be like. If there's a lot of white or bright light, I believe that you can pull off lighter shades," Shezzane further elaborated.
As for the guests, they should always keep in mind to not outshine the groom. It is the groom's big day, so why not let him enjoy the limelight. Going classic is the way to go, adding subtle details of excellence with the tie or pocket square, allowing you to look suave.
Dapper has already introduced a line of high-quality fabrics from the finest suppliers in the world to give you the best suiting experience.
Holland & Sherry, one of the oldest suppliers of luxury cloths, has made its way on to the racks of Dapper's atelier. Italian giant, Loro Piana, is also expected to be added to capture the true essence of suiting.
Even though Dapper Bespoke has been on the scene for five years now, their unparalleled taste and knowledge about the know-how of dressing a man dates back to over a few decades. They always strive to evolve themselves with the ever-changing fashion scene, keeping themselves up to date with the latest trend so that you can enjoy nothing but the best. They shoot for perfection, making sure that everything is done right. They are not just a bespoke tailor shop, but an institution.
