Shamser Mobin, 11 other BNP leaders indicted for violence
A Dhaka court today framed charges against former vice chairman of BNP Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and 11 other BNP leaders in a case filed for obstructing police from discharging their duties and vandalism at Mohakhali.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfur Rahman Shishir framed the charges against the accused rejecting their discharge petitions.
The court fixed March 1 for starting the trial of the case.
A group of lawyers, led by Sanaullah Miah, stood for the BNP leaders while assistant public prosecutor Iqbal Hossain argued for the State.
Iqbal read out the charges framed against the accused at the courtroom in presence of the accused.
On June 27, 2010, over 100 leaders and activists, including the 12 accused, of BNP-Jamaat alliance vandalised vehicles and obstructed police from discharging their duties at Wireless Gate in Mohakhali in the city during a hartal.
Following the incident, sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station M Ali filed a case with his police station against the 12 people on that day.
Later, another SI of the police station Giasuddin, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheets against them on April 30, 2014.
