HC rejects writ challenging Menon’s lawmakership
The High Court today rejected a writ petition that challenged Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon’s lawmakership being elected in the December 30 Jatiya Sangsad elections in 2018 from Dhaka-8 constituency.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order saying that the petitioner may move the petition before an election-related bench of the High Court.
Writ petitioner Advocate Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star that he will move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
The lawyer said he filed the writ petition on December 8 last year challenging the legality of the election result of Dhaka-8 constituency where Rashed Khan Menon, the 14-party alliance candidate, was elected as MP in the December 30 elections.
He also said in the petition that Rashed Khan Menon himself claimed that people could not cast their votes in the December 30 JS elections in 2018. Therefore, the election result of his constituency is illegal, Eunus Ali said in the petition.
