Khaleda wants to be treated at advanced health centre: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said their party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia wants to be treated at an advanced health centre as she is being “denied proper treatment” at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
“Khaleda Zia has given a message to us willing to be treated at an advanced health centre as she is not getting now proper treatment,” Fakhrul said while addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
Khaleda Zia’s family members met her at BSMMU and saw her very sick and they cried while talking about the health condition of the former prime minister before the media men, Fakhrul said.
Venting anger at the authority, Fakhrul said they have sought permission to meet Khaleda Zia but did not get any response till the day.
“Khaleda Zia has been confining in jail as part of politics of vengeance and she is now being pushed at the verge of death on the same ground,” the BNP leader alleged warning that the government must be held responsible if an untoward incident takes place.
Coming down hard to the BSMMU authority for its “failure to ensure proper treatment” of Khaleda Zia, Fakhrul demanded the immediate release of Khaleda Zia as she needs advanced treatment.
On Sunday, Khaleda’s late son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman, her granddaughter Zahia Rahman, sister Selima Islam and three other relatives met Khaleda at the BSMMU.
After the meeting, Selima Islam alleged that the government is conspiring to kill her sister in jail by depriving her of bail and treatment since her condition was “deteriorating fast”.
Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in February 2018.
She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year, though her party claims both cases are politically motivated.
The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1 last year.
