Mahathir, Modi,Trudeau to visit Bangladesh this year

World leaders and eminent personalities will visit Bangladesh to attend various programmes to be held marking Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centennial throughout this year.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told this to reporters following a meeting of Bangabandhu Birth Centennial Celebration Sub-committee on International Affairs at Dhaka’s International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) this morning.

The imminent personalities are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir bin Mohamad, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Indian Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and others.

Bangabandhu was an advocate of peace, the FM said adding that on the occasion of his birth centennial, “we want to brand Bangladesh newly as a country of vibrant economy and promoter of peace, which we have already proved to be.”

Additionally, all Bangladeshi missions will hold various programmes abroad including seminars and art exhibitions throughout the year, the minister added.
