Bogura-1 MP Abdul Mannan passes away

Awami League MP of Bogura -1 constituency Abdul Mannan died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Dhaka this morning at the age of 67.

He breathed his last at Labaid Hospital around 8:30am, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting T Jaman Niketa, vice president of the Bogura District AL unit.

MP Mannan suffered a cardiac arrest when he went to Parliament to join the ongoing session on Thursday afternoon. 

Later, he was admitted to Labaid Hospital and since then he was on life support, said Niketa quitting MP’s personal secretary. 

His namaz-e-janazas will be held in front of South Plaza of the parliament, Mymenshing agricultural university premises, Sonatala upazila and Sariakandi upazila on Monday, said Niketa. 

Later, he will be buried at his village Hindukandi in Bogura’s Sariakandi upazila. 

Till then, his body will be kept at Dhaka Birdem Hospital. 

Mannan left a son and a daughter and his wife to mourn his death.

He will be buried after his daughter Mahira Mannan, who is now in America, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday. 

Mannan was born at Hindukandi village on December 19, 1953. Abdul Mannan elected VP of the Bangladesh agricultural university (Mymenshing) for 1979-80.  Later, he was elected president of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (central committee). 

Mannan, also a former organizing secretary of BCL, was elected (AL) lawmaker from Bogura-1 constituency in 2008, 2014 and last 2018, Niketa said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mannan.

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled the contribution of the former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League in various democratic movements.

"Awami League lost a skilled organiser and a devoted activist," she said.

She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
