Restriction on private vehicle movement on city polls day
Private vehicles will be restricted on Dhaka streets during the city corporation elections, EC Secretary Md Alamgir said today.
Those will not be allowed on the polls day in order to manage traffic, Alamgir told reporters after a meeting with the chiefs of different law enforcement agencies this afternoon.
The decision was taken following a call to do so was made by law enforcers during the meeting.
According to intelligence reports, at least 17-18 voting centres in both city corporations are important (vulnerable), the EC secretary also told the newsmen.
NO FAKE VOTES POSSIBLE THROUGH EVMS: CEC
During today’s meeting, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said, “Our EVMs [electronic voting machines] are of high quality. No fake votes can be cast using those.”
The CEC also warned that the commission would take strict measures if any negligence in duty is found in law enforcers during the elections.
“We don’t want to have any complaints regarding any irregularities and negligence in duty by the law enforcement officials. In case of minor issues, you would have to solve those through your respective authorities of police and BGB,” CEC Nurul Huda said.
“We are sincere in holding a free, fair and credible election, and we expect to have your full cooperation in the same way we had previously,” he said.
