HT Imam warns of goons trying to spoil election atmosphere
A delegation of the ruling Awami League led by their Election Conducting Committee Co-Chairman HT Imam today informed Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda that the people who resorted to arson attacks in previous elections are gathering in Dhaka to foil the city polls.
“We have information that the goons who have gone for arson attack across the country earlier are gathering in Dhaka again and trying to spoil the electoral atmosphere,” Imam, Political Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said.
Earlier in the evening, Imam, along with a few top level leaders of the Awami League, held a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner and discussed the prevailing situation ahead of the Dhaka city polls scheduled for February 1.
Terming the attack on BNP’s Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral aspirant Ishraque Hossain as “pre-planned and stage-managed” Imam said, “We have information about the attackers and we have submitted the evidence to the commission.”
During the meeting, AL Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak urged the commission to take steps to arrest outsiders and goons who are gathering in the capital ahead of the election, for the sake of safety and security of the city dwellers.
