Firearms in school bag, 3 children among 6 held
Six people including three children were detained with eight round bullets, four foreign pistols and seven magazines from Dakskhin Badda in Dhaka and Fatullah in Narayanganj last night.
The detainees are – Shakil 11, and Al Amin 10, sons of Jalal Mia of Bhisnopur village of Chandpur district and Jishan 11, son of Bachchu Mia of Rupganj in Narayanganj; Imran 18, of Bhisnopur village; Bashir 25, of Barura upazila in Comilla; and Md Masud 28, of Rupganj upazila.
All of them reside in Dakskhin Badda in the capital, and they are all involved with arms trade, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting police.
Police arrested Imran, Shakil and Al Amin red-handed with a school bag carrying a foreign-made pistol and five bullets when they went to Fatullah to sell firearms on Wednesday afternoon, said Md Sharfuddin, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Fatullah Model Police Station.
The children were used for arms trading, the police official told reporters.
On information, Narayanganj detectives and Fatullah police conducted a search drive in Badda of the capital and arrested the three others along with the rest of the pistols and bullets, he said at a press conference at the local Superintendent of Police (SP) office last night.
Meanwhile, two youths were detained along with petrol bombs in Lampara area on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road last night.
The arrestees -- Rafiqul Islam, 38, and Gazi, 32, of Mashdair area in the town -- are involved in politics with pro-BNP student body Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the correspondent added.
