3 bikers die in Dinajpur road accident

Three men were killed after their motorbike hit a roadside excavator in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur last night.

The deceased were -- Md Sujan Rahman, 37, son of Saidur Rahman, Osman Gani, 30, son of Setabul Islam and Biplob Hossain, 30, of Segunabagan village under Nawabganj upazila.

Police said they were returning to Nawabganj from Birampur upazila last night, while Sujan was driving the bike.

“As the motorcycle arrived at the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road of the upazila, it hit a roadside excavator parked there,” said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station.

The roads were being repaired and that is why an excavator was parked there. The trio probably missed the sign that said to go around the area to avoid the repair works, our local correspondent reports, quoting the OC.

Osman and Biplob died on the spot while Sujan sustained critical injuries, he said.

Locals rescued Sujan and took him to Birampur Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries, added the OC.

Police handed the bodies over to their respective families this morning.
