2 killed as bus plunges into ditch in Rajshahi

Two people were killed and seven others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi today.

The deceased were identified as Riaz Uddin (55), son of Jolus Mondol, and Habibur Rahman (45), son of Solimuddin, both from Nachol upazila, our Rajshahi University correspondent reports, quoting police.

Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station, said the Mundumala-bound bus hit a tree on the side of the road and fell into a ditch in Buraburi area around 12:00pm.

The accident left two passengers dead on the spot and seven others injured, the OC said.

On information, police and locals rushed to the spot and rescued the other passengers while the injured were taken to Tanore Upazila Health Complex.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
