5 to be hanged for killing child in Dinajpur

A Dinajpur court today sentenced five people to death for killing a child after abduction in Ghoraghat upazila in 2015.

Sharif Uddin Ahmed, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Dinajpur pronounced the verdict in a crowed courtroom after examining witnesses and records in the case.

The convicts are Zillur Rahman, 20, son of Yeahia Hossain, his (Zillur’s) brother Jewel Islam, 27, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, 22, son of Kamaluddin, Humayan Kabir Sagar alias Bullet, 25, son Mahbubur Rahman and Feroz Kabir, 20. All the convicts are residents of Kadirnagar village in Ghoraghat upazila.

The court also acquitted six more people as the allegation brought against them was not proved, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped four-year-old boy Parsha Saha Parash from Kadirnagar village on November 11, 2015 while the boy was playing near his house, and demanded Tk 10 lakh from the victim’s father as ransom.

As the family members failed to pay the ransom, the kidnapers killed the boy after gouging out his eyes at Kazipara in the same upazila.

The victim’s father Keshab Shaha filed a case with Ghoraghat Police Station on the same day.

Police recovered the body of Parash from the spot on November 12 following the confessional statement of the accused.

Later, police submitted a charge sheet against 11 people to a court after the investigation concluded.
