Democracy exiled: Khaleda
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has alleged that the ruling party has exiled democracy and is running the country with a politics of vengeance.
“The ruling quarter is hindering our democratic growth and national progress by indulging in politics of vengeance,” she said in a message marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day tomorrow.
Pulling reference to the post-independence politics of Bangladesh, Khaleda said: “An evil force established one-party rule by destroying the country’s hard-earned democracy.”
“Now again, the country’s democracy is at stake. The evil force has exiled democracy today. It is weakening our hard-earned sovereignty and quashing people’s democratic rights.”
The BNP-led 20-party alliance chief also called upon all including her party men to be united from their respective positions to work together for the sake of the country’s progress and prosperity.
Khaleda Zia also extended her sympathy to the family members of those intellectuals martyred on December 14, in 1971.
