Ex-state minister Rahmat Ali passes away
Former State Minister and Awami League lawmaker from Gazipur-3 constituency advocate Rahmat Ali passed away this morning. He was 74.
Rahmat, who was undergoing treatment at Square Hospitals in Dhaka, breathed his last around 7:35am, said Harun-or-Rashid Farid, former assistant secretary of Jubo League, the youth body of Awami League.
Rahmat, also an AL advisory council member, had been suffering from kidney ailments, diabetes, cardiac problems and old-age complications for long, our Gazipur correspondent reports, quoting Harun-or-Rashid.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Born in Sreepur of Gazipur on September 16, 1945, freedom fighter Rahmat Ali was an elected lawmaker with AL ticket in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008 and 2014.
He was made state minister for local government and rural development and cooperatives in 1999.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Shanker Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi after Zuhr prayers, at south plaza of Bangladesh Jaitya Sangsad after Asr and Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Science Laboratory after Esha today.
His fourth Janaza will be held at Bangladesh Supreme Court ground tomorrow.
Rahmat will be buried at his family graveyard in Sreepur of Gazipur on Tuesday after completing his last Janaza at Freedom Rahmat Ali Government College.
