2nd N’ganj gas explosion victim dies

Another victim, who suffered burn injuries in a gas explosion at a house in Narayanganj yesterday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this morning.

With this, death toll from the gas explosion rose to two.

Kiran Miah (45) from Narsingdi breathed his last at the burn unit of the hospital around 10:00am, said Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police camp.

He had suffered 70 percent burn injuries, our Narayanganj correspondent reports, quoting Bachchu Miah.

Kiran's mother Nur Jahan (60) died and seven other family members suffered burn injuries in the explosion at a Shahedpara residence in Siddhirganj upazila.  

The six others injured were -- Abul Hossain, 25, Hiron Miah, 25, Kauser Miah, 16, Mukta Akter, 20, Ilma Akter, 3, and Apon, 10. They are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Three of the injured are in critical condition, according DMCH sources. 

Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence officials suspect that the family may not have switched their gas stove off at night, which caused the explosion when a match was struck in the kitchen around 5:00am yesterday.
