Nurse stabbed by youth in Patuakhali hospital

A youth posing as an accident victim entered a private hospital and stabbed a nurse in Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali early this morning.

Sujata Dutta (22) was sent to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital after receiving primary treatment at the hospital, where she worked, for her wounds in left arm and face.

The attacker Liton Khan (24) was captured and later handed over to police.

Victim's colleague Yusuf Khan said three youths on a motorcycle arrived at the healthcare centre where Sujata works around 6:00am and knocked at the main gate. They said they had an accident and needed treatment.

As a staffer opened the gate, Liton entered the hospital. Another nurse took him to emergency unit where he stabbed Sujata, leaving her injured, he said.    

As Liton tried to escape, some hospital staffers chased him down and later handed over to police, Yusuf said.

Saiful Islam, a sub-inspector of Bauphal Police Station, said Liton in primary interrogation told police that he had previously known Sujata .
