Enrolling law students beyond limit: 2 private universities fined
The Supreme Court today fined two private universities Tk 10 lakh each for enrolling more than 50 students to their law departments in a semester, violating University Grants Commission (UGC) rules.
The two private universities -- Chattogram International University and Sylhet Metropolitan University -- have been asked to pay the fine to Bangladesh Bar Council immediately.
Students will be allowed to appear for the bar council enrolment test if the two universities pay the fine, the apex court said.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after disposing of two separate review petitions filed by the bar council seeking necessary order to this effect.
Earlier, the Supreme Court fined six other private universities Tk 10 lakh each for the same reason.
