14 hurt as private car ploughs into crowd in Dhaka

At least 14 people were injured as a private car rammed into a crowd in Dhaka's Kurmitola area this noon.

Kazi Shahan Haque, officer-in-charge of Cantonment Police Station, told The Daily Star that the driver of the private car, which was heading towards Dhaka Airport, lost control of steering and struck a group of people who were waiting for transport on the airport road in front of Kurmitola General Hospital.

The accident left 14 people injured; they were immediately taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, the OC added.

Of the injured, two critically injured people were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while two others to National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, the police official said.

Meanwhile, police detained the driver Robiul Islam, 42, and seized the vehicle.
