Woman dies in police custody

A woman died in police custody early today, after she was picked up from Mohammadpur area of Dhaka.

The deceased was identified as Kolpona Begum alias Josna (38), reports our correspondent quoting Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Wahiduzzaman of Tejgaon division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Details on the victim could not be known immediately.

Wahiduzzaman said they arrested Josna along with three others from a house in Old Mohammadpur area for their alleged involvement in "antisocial activities".

"They were kept at Mohammadpur Police Station. At 3am, Josna felt unwell," he said, adding that they took her to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Later, she was shifted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases where she breathed her last, added the police official. 

The body was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

On February 18, a mother of two died several hours after she was picked up from home by Detective Branch of police in Gazipur.
