Suspected human trafficker held; 16 Rohingyas rescued in Cox’s Bazar
A suspected human trafficker was detained and 16 Rohingyas were rescued from Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar as they attempted to go to Malaysia last night.
The local administration later sent the Rohingyas back to Ukhia refugee camp, our staff correspondent reports.
A raid was conducted based on information that some Rohingyas would be brought to Maheshkhali island by a boat from Cox's Bazar jetty ghat in the evening yesterday, said Prabhash Chandra Dhar, officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station.
A police team led by OC Prabhash raided Cox's Bazar-Maheshkhali channel and rescued 10 Rohingya men and women.
Meanwhile, Maheshkhali municipality Mayor Moksud Mia rescued six Rohingyas in Gorokghata Bazar and sent them to local police.
Some more Rohingyas were rescued in the area and four alleged human traffickers detained in the last few days, police said.
