Padma boat capsize: Body of newly-wed bride recovered
The death toll in the Padma boat capsize raised to nine after the newly-wed bride's body was recovered this morning.
Sweety Akter Purnima went missing along with many others after two boats carrying wedding guests capsized in River Padma on Friday evening, reports our staff correspondent.
A rescue team recovered her body from Shahapara area of the river, about 7kms away from the city.
Salauddin Al Wadud, the spokesperson of the committee formed to probe the capsize, confirmed the matter and said the body was handed over to family members.
The two boats were carrying 38 passengers when the incident occurred on Padma river in Rajshahi city's Sreerampur area.
Divers of navy, BIWTA, and Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence have been conducting the rescue operation.
Overloading and bad weather are to blame for the accident, according to the investigation committee.
