Barguna custodial death: Suspended Amtali inspector sued

A case was filed against suspended inspector (investigation) of Amtali Police Station, Manoranjan Mistry, in connection with the death of a man at the police station on March 27.

He was made lone accused in the case filed under Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, 2013 last night, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

On March 27, 55-year-old Shanu Hawlader, a farmer, was found hanging at the police station, three days after he was arrested.

After the death of Shanu Hawlader, Amtali OC Abul Bashar was withdrawn and attached to Barguna Police lines. Two other policemen including Inspector (investigation) Manoranjan were suspended on the same day following allegations that they tortured the man to death.
