44 return from India via Benapole, put under quarantine
At least 44 Bangladeshis who were stuck in India were put under institutional quarantine after they returned through Benapole border today.
They returned in small groups and kept arriving until this noon, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Mohsin Ali, officer-in-charge of immigration police.
They were sent to Benapole Municipality Community Centre after a few medical tests, said Dr Habibur Rahman, a physician at Benapole immigration check post.
Everyone can return home after the 14-day quarantine period, he further said.
Around the same time, locals staged demonstration on the Benapole bypass road protesting the establishment of the quarantine centre.
In the last four days, at least 185 Bangladeshi citizens have returned from India through the Benapole border, said immigration officials.
Of them, five had high fever and were sent to an isolation ward at Jashore General Hospital on Saturday, reports our correspondent quoting a health official who did not want to be named.
