2 detained with 42 tonnes of govt rice in Patuakhali

Police today arrested two persons along with 42 tonnes of government rice from Boga Bazaar under Baufal upazila of Patuakhali district.

The arrestees were identified as Shahjahan, a rice trader and Jaynal Chowkidar, owner of a trawler, our correspondent reports quoting Faruq Hossain, assistant superintendent (ASP) of police of Baufal circle.

Police arrested the duo and seized the rice while loading to the trawler of Jaynal aiming to hoard it at Shahjahan's storage at Boga Baazar, he said.

On information, police conducted a raid at the bazaar and seized the rice from the duo's possession, the ASP added.

Rice Trader Shahjahan claimed that he purchased the rice from a public representative of Hijla in Barishal district, ASP Faruq further said.

Police said they would go for action against those involved after investigation.
