SpiceJet keeps flying despite lockdown
SpiceJet has been striving hard to keep the supply chain of a vast country such as India intact despite the ongoing lockdown enforced in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The second largest airline in India has transported close to 4,000 tons of cargo on more than 430 flights -- more than 70 percent of all air cargo carried by Indian airlines since the nation-wide lockdown began three weeks back, says a press release.
And, MGH Group, a Bangladeshi company and the global cargo GSA of SpiceJet, is instrumental behind the airline's freighter flights from Singapore to Chennai and Bengaluru, carrying crucial medical supplies along with regular cargo operations to Hanoi and Bangkok.
SpiceJet's fleet of five dedicated freighters are crisscrossing the global skies carrying vital supplies including medicines, medical devices, cold chain medical supplies, farm produce for various governments, medical and pharma companies, international retailers and farmer bodies in this crisis time, according to the press release.
Anis Ahmed, founder and CEO of MGH Group, was in full of praises for Ajay Singh, owner of the low-cost carrier.
"His bold and farsighted move to set-up an independent cargo arm for SpiceJet has paid rich dividends by not only ensuring that the key supply chain remains intact but also providing healthy cash flows for the company when air passenger operations have been completely grounded," said Anis.
No other Indian airline runs a dedicated freighter fleet, he added.
SpiceJet along with MGH Group has been planning to further expand its freighter operations and add multiple global routes to its fast expanding network considering the surge in demand for essentials and medical supplies globally.
