BNP to meet CEC, likely to file complaints
A BNP delegation will meet Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad today ahead of the maiden partisan municipal polls on December 30.
The six-member team, led by standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan will pay the visit around 4:00pm, Sayrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP chairperson’s media wing, told The Daily Star.
BNP has been complaining of rampant violation to the electoral code of conduct ahead of the polls and slamming the Election Commission for its “failure to check” such anomalies.
The delegation will likely be placing the party’s complaints before the Election Commission.
A senior BNP leader Hafizuddin Ahmed last Sunday even said the party will go for movement against the commission if it fails to hold the election in a fair manner.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, however, who kept aside her party from participating in the last general election in January 2014, now seems determined to contest in municipal polls.
In a recent statement, she hoped people will overcome all obstacles and vote her party and that the BNP will show its popularity through this election.
This is the first time the local body election is being held under party banners.
