Police arrested 109 illegal highway toll-collectors this month
Bangladesh Police have arrested around 109 people in 51 cases filed with different police stations regarding extortion at various points on the roads and highways in the country since the beginning of June.
All police units started the drive against illegal toll collection from vehicles under the guidelines of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, according to a statement issued by Police Headquarters today.
The police chief took the initiative on June 1 to stop extortion on vehicles and directed all the units to take action against the extortionists after discussion with transport owners during a meeting at the PHQ.
As per the instructions of the police chief, the concerned units of the police have been taking strict actions against such extortionists. The operation of the Bangladesh Police will continue to reduce to zero any kind of extortion on vehicles, the PHQ statement added.
