DNCC election: Tabith files application seeking EVM data, polls documents
Defeated BNP candidate Tabith Awal today filed an application with an election tribunal of Dhaka seeking its direction for the returning officer to provide all necessary documents related to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election, including data from EVM.
Judge Utpal Bhattacharya of the tribunal (First Joint District Judge's Court) received the application but did not pass any order on the issue.
Earlier on March 2, Tabith filed a suit with the same tribunal in Dhaka, demanding cancellation of DNCC polls held on February 1.
The following day, the tribunal issued summons upon the defendants asking for their explanation against the suit.
The chief election commissioner, commission's secretary, winning candidate M Atiqul Islam and five others have been made defendants to contest the suit.
In the suit, Tabith claimed that the February 1 election was held amid irregularities and corruption, adding that on the day, a satisfactory number of voters did not turn up to cast their votes.
Tabith also alleged that the election commissioner, in collusion with others, declared Atiqul the mayor of DNCC.
He also prayed to the tribunal to declare election process for the post of mayor in the DNCC polls 2020 void and order a fresh election.
