Kolkata girl ‘gang-raped’ by army men on train
A teenage girl hailing from Dumdum in Kolkata was allegedly raped by three Indian Army men onboard the Amritsar-bound Howrah-Amritsar Express this morning.
The 14-year-old girl, who was on her way to meet a Facebook friend without informing her parents, was offered liquor onboard the train and then gang-raped when she was drunk, reports The Indian Express.
The victim told police that she was raped six times before she was threatened.
Police have arrested Mandrish Tripathi, one of the army men who allegedly forced the girl to drink liquor after she mistakenly entered a compartment reserved for army men. His two other accomplices have managed to escape, said Madhupur Government Railway Police (GRP) Arjun Tiwari.
“We got information about a girl being in unconscious state in train. We admitted her to hospital. She has been in a state of shock. We learnt that she is from Dumdum and is from a well-to-do family. Her father had alerted Kolkata GRP as soon as she left her some on Sunday,” he added.
A group of social workers first noticed the girl being unconscious in the train at Madhupur. The Madhupur GRP arrested Tripathi after the army men onboard were quizzed.
The victim, a class nine girl, rebelled against her parents to meet her Facebook friend from Ludhiana and left home without permission. She boarded the train at Howrah at 1:50pm on Sunday.
A FIR was registered after her medical examination was conducted, said Madhupur sub-divisional police officer Ashok Kumar Singh.
