Include war history in English textbooks
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday stressed the importance of including the Liberation War history in English medium textbooks.
"It's [Liberation War history] there in Bangla medium textbooks, but it's still to get its place with due importance in English medium or English textbooks...this should be done," she said.
The PM made the comments after receiving the results of this year's PSC, Ebtedayee, JSC and JDC, and inaugurating the Book Festival at her official residence, the Gono Bhaban.
She said the great Liberation War is a matter of pride for all in the country. "We've attained our victory through a war...96,000 Pakistani army personnel surrendered to us."
Hasina mentioned that children have to nurture in their mind that the Bangalee nation is the nation of victorious ones. "Then they'll grow up with self-confidence and start loving the country and working for it," she said.
Terming today's children the future of the country, the PM said proper steps will have to be taken to let them know the long struggle for the country's independence and sacrifices made by the great sons of the soil during the Liberation War in 1971.
She said Bangladesh has become an independent country through a long struggle and supreme sacrifice of three million people, and her government's aim was to build an educated nation and establish a poverty-free country.
She asked the authorities concerned to make sure that the history of the Liberation War is projected properly in English medium textbooks.
