10-year-old raped in Noakhali, one held

Police detained one person in connection with the rape of a 10-year-old girl in Noakhali's Companiganj upazila.

The detainee, Joynal Abedin (25), is married to the victim's cousin, Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said quoting locals.

Last night Joynal raped the child at her house in Charbalua village, a remote area in Char Elahi union, the police official said. The victim's parents had gone to the upazila's town for treatment of her younger sister.

Locals rescued the child this morning and took her to a local clinic for treatment.

On information, a team from Charbalua police outpost conducted a drive in the nearby areas and held Joynal, the OC told our Noakhali correspondent.

Preparation was underway to file a case over the incident, the OC added.
