Court asks CCC administrator to show cause for demolition of Biplob Uddyan structures
A Chattogram court today issued a show cause notice to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) administrator Khursed Alam Sujan asking him to explain why an injunction should not be imposed on his move to pull down structures leased by previous mayor AJM Nasir Uddin.
Chattogram District and Sessions Judge's Court issued the order and gave the CCC administrator, chief executive officer and chief revenue officer five working days to for their explanation.
Contacted, CCC administrator Khursed Alam Sujan said he would appear at court to explain his move.
CCC recently initiated action against the structures at Biplob Uddyan at gate-2 area of the port city, saying the structures leased by the previous mayor causes public suffering as it has shrunk footpath space.
Mizanur Rahman, chairman of Style Living Architect, who sought the injunction from the court, told The Daily Star that the beautification initiative at Biplob Uddyan, which they did under a public-private partnership with the contract with CCC, cost his firm more than Tk 7 crore.
"As per the contract, we built a two-storey structure with sitting arrangement following proper procedures," he said.
The demolition will wreak a huge blow to their business, Mizanur said.
"Being helpless, I moved the court to seek a remedy," he added.
