‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ will premiere at the London Film Festival
Bangladeshi director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit's first feature film Nonajoler Kabbo (The Salt in our Waters) has been chosen in the Official Selection for the 64th British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival. The festival, which will go on from October 7-18, will screen the film on October 13.
BFI London Film Festival is one of the world's leading film festivals and a celebration of diverse global cinema. Rezwan Shahriar Sumit's film is among the 50 chosen for this year's highly competitive slate.
Nonajoler Kabbo is a clash-of-cultures tale set in a remote coastal village of Bangladesh, which shines a unique light on love and resilience.
The film will be streaming across the UK region between October 13 – 17. It is a Bangladesh-France coproduction -- supported by acclaimed director Spike Lee, CNC Aide aux cinemas du monde, Film Anudan, Torino Film Lab's Audience Design Fund, IEFTA and NFDC Film Bazaar. Shot by 2020 Spirit Award nominee Chananun Chotrungroj (The Third Wife, Pop Aye), the film features Fazlur Rahman Babu, Titas Zia and Tasnova Tamanna. The musical score is done by Arnob.
The BFI London Film Festival is Britain's leading film event and one of the world's best film festivals. The first festival took place back in 1957 and screened 15–20 films including Satyajit Ray's Aparajito.
Rezwan Shahriar Sumit was born and raised in Dhaka. City Life, his first short, earned him a place at the Berlinale Talents in 2008. He went on to study at the Graduate Film Program of New York University as a Tisch Fellow. His first feature, The Salt in Our Waters, was awarded France's CNC Aide aux cinémas du monde, TFL Audience Design Fund, Bangladesh's National Film Grant and the Spike Lee Fellowship.
